Amherst – Town of Amherst was officially created on April 10,1818. As Amherst grew, hamlets were created. Snyder, Eggertsville, Getzville, Swormsville, East Amherst and Millersport are now an important part of Amherst. The Erie Canal passes along the northern edge of Amherst.Farmland has been used to build new houses.
The University of Buffalo campus in Amherst, along with the construction of major access roads such as the 1-290 (Youngman Expressway) and 1-990 (Lockport Express) make it easy for people to live in Amherst and commute to Buffalo and other communities. Geico and International Imaging Materials (IIMAK) are a couple of companies headquartered in Amherst.
